Theatertreffen
4 – 20 May 2012Every May international guests meet at the most significant theatre festival in Berlin. The centrepiece of the Theatertreffen are the ten “most remarkable productions” selected each year by an independent jury of critics from around 400 plays presented in one season. This presentation of the best in German-language theatre is accompanied by a varied programme of further events: public debate with guests from culture, politics and business creates links between theatre and social and political issues. Theatre fans come to the Haus der Berliner Festspiele to attend awards ceremonies, discussions with the audience and concerts.
The Theatertreffen offers a platform to emerging theatre artists under the title “tt Talente”: the Stückemarkt, an established presence on the theatrical landscape for 30 years, presents new plays by hitherto undiscovered European authors, the International Forum offers young theatremakers opportunities for professional development and the Theatertreffen-Blog, staffed by the arts journalists of the future, ensures that the Theatertreffen reaches beyond the festival venues and beyond Berlin itself.
