internationales literaturfestival berlin
15 – 26 September 20107 – 18 September 2011
The international literature festival berlin provides an opportunity for firsthand experience of literary diversity in an age of globalisation. Poets in Arabic meet American short story writers, South Korean poets their Russian colleagues, and African novelists get to know young authors from Albania.
The greats of world literature and fascinating new discoveries enjoy equal status. Unfamiliar aspects and new relations emerge as every year around 100 authors offer insight into new and traditional developments in contemporary world literature. There are more than 200 events, with three main programme blocks: “Literatures of the World”, “Kaleidoscope”, and “International Children’s and Youth Literature”. The international perspective is balanced by a regional focus. Discussions with authors, political debates, musical events and film showings make the international literature festival berlin a living and multilingual forum run for and by fans of literature. The festival is organised by the Peter Weiss Foundation for Art and Politics and the Berliner Festspiele under the patronage of the German UNESCO Commission. It is financed by the German Capital Culture Fund.
