In Tune with the Arts: The Berliner Festspiele Summer Party
Free admission

“Berliner Festspiele are as busy as ever”, wrote Berlin’s Tagesspiegel newspaper in June of last year, referring to the first Festspiele summer party held at the theatre in Schaperstraße. And things certainly were busy: around 3,000 visitors marked the end of the festival season at the party in the theatre built by Fritz Bornemann and its gardens: fascinating artists, curious neighbours, well-known politicians, families on a good day out, festival fans, friends of the arts, music lovers – and night owls.

This summer you are all invited to come again! This year’s summer party will take place on the afternoon and into the night of Saturday 27 June. All of our theatre, dance and music festivals that are seen in the theatre building throughout the year will join forces to transform the theatre into a great platform for the arts, a “parcours des arts”. The large stage will be used as an airport, then a concert hall, and then a television studio. The studio stage will host our “Everything is Performance” shows. In the foyers you are invited to join in the conversation and discussion, and to enjoy tea ceremonies. The Piscatorloge will again host readings for a small audience by well-known authors and personalities. Between the desk and the table in the Festspiele director’s office, a small chamber orchestra will create a new space for sound. The ticket hall will become a dance floor, where children, parents and grandparents can rock and swing to the music provided by famous DJs, while live jazz, minimal music, and rock and roll can be heard in the garden. And non-stop: inspiring meetings under the chestnut trees, heated discussion by the camp fire, barbecued sausages in the garden swings.

The whole theatre will become one great big party, where theatre makers, dancers and performers of every kind will take to the large and the small stages, the foyers, the roofs, the gardens and the theatre boxes, to create together a great spectacle. All in tune with the arts – our second summer party will open with a resounding open-air sing-along concert. Berliner Festspiele are as busy – and as loud – as ever.

After the Theatertreffen comes the summer party. A detailed programme is available within the German version of this website.
