International Children’s and Youth Literature
Registration required at (030) 27 87 86 66

Lilian Brøgger (Denmark) reads from her picture books and shows the small and large heroes in her story: In “Pigen der fik rigtig mange söskende” (t: The Girl Who Got Lots of Siblings) she tells the story of Asta, who wishes ardently for siblings and without further ado contrives a whole dozen of them. And finally, Lilian Brøgger introduces all sorts of amusing figures: Karlo the mashed-potato, a seven-booted tomcat, and a crazy hat that no longer wants to be worn but now wants to wear its owner.

Lilian Brøgger, who was born on the island of Fanø in 1950 and grew up in Copenhagen, is the most famous children’s book illustrator in Denmark. With more than 100 books to her name she has developed trends and influenced the visual language of children and adults throughout Scandinavia. Her unconventional, poetic illustrations for ‘100 meget frikantede historier’ (2005; t: ‘A hundred very square stories’) decorate philosophical, offbeat short fairytales about unhappy dragons or cigar-smoking Wellingtons, and were honoured by the Bratislava Illustrators’ Show. The illustrator lives in Copenhagen.
