In „La Piste sauvage“ (t: The wild track) François Gravel (Canada, Québec) tells a rapid story of dangerous racetracks and exciting reading. When Steve Charbonneau is convinced by his teacher to read a car magazine, everything changes nightmarishly in Steve’s life: the mysterious Roxanne appears, and Steve is then challenged to participate in an illegal car race, for which a shady policeman recruits brave young people as “kamikaze drivers.”
6th/7th grade

François Gravel was born in 1951 in Montreal, Quebec and having worked for some time as a teacher at a secondary school he is now an economist. Since the end of the eighties he has published more than 50 stories, novels, books for children learning to read and picture books. In his stories for young readers Gravel accurately depicts the realities of life yet maintains space for dreams and fantasy. Young characters meet giant insects or march on the seabed, as is the case in the beloved ‘Klonk’ series (1993ff). Amongst other honours Gravel has received the Prix du Gouverneur Général. He lives in Outremont.
