In “Dance on My Grave” Aidan Chambers (Great Britain) tells us hauntingly and boldly of “life and death in four parts, one hundred and seventeen pieces, six up-to-date journals and two newspaper clippings, displaced with a couple of jokes, one or two clouts, footnotes, and every now and again a fiasco, so that the story goes down better.” In a discussion, the author presents excerpts and thoughts on his provoking novel for young adults.
In English. 10th/12th grade
Aidan Chambers was born in 1934 in the north-east of England and is regarded as one of the most renowned authors in contemporary English fiction for young adults. He worked as a teacher, was a monk in an Anglican monastery for seven years and since 1968 has lived as a freelance author in the county of Gloucestershire. Just as is the case with the characters of his challenging novels his young readers are confronted with the provocative experiences of friendship, love, sexuality and responsibility. ‘Dance on my Grave’ (1982) is one of Chambers’s most well-known works. In 2002 the author was honoured with the Hans Christian Andersen Medal.
