Roberto Innocenti (Italy) takes his young public on a fascinating journey into his studio and his highly detailed picture-book world. He presents his illustrations of the great classics of international children's literature – including Carlo Collodi’s “Pinocchio”, Charles Perrault’s “Cinderella or the Glass Slipper”, as well as texts from Charles Dickens, E.T.A. Hoffmann and Oscar Wilde. And finally, the illustrator and his young audience will descend to the “Hotel of Longing”, where the guests, dreamers, and treasure hunters from the world of literature will meet.
4th–5th grade

Roberto Innocenti was born near Florence in 1940 and is Italy’s best known illustrator. He never attended an art school, but worked for 18 years in an animated-film studio in Rome. It was while here that he embarked on a world career which would go on to continually create new standards for the illustration of classic literature. Amongst others he has illustrated the work of Hoffmann, Perrault, Dickens and Wilde. His richly-detailed works have been released throughout the world and amongst others have been honoured with the Silver Medal of the Society of Illustrators in New York. His interpretation of Collodi’s ‘The Adventures of Pinocchio’ (1988) is considered to be one of his masterpieces. The artist lives in Florence.
