Sima Djabar Zadegan was born in Basel in 1988 and read Islam studies, Middle Eastern studies and German philology in Basel, Freiburg/Breisgau and Tehran. She translated several plays and stage versions (by Amir Reza Koohestani, Mahin Sadri and Azadeh Shahmiri) from Persian into German, which were presented at theatres including Münchner Kammerspiele and Theater Freiburg. Currently, plays translated by Sima Djabar Zadegan are part of the repertory of Deutsches Theater Berlin and (from March 2024) Residenztheater München.
From 2018 to 2023, she was a member of the dramaturgy department of Deutsches Theater Berlin; initially as an assistant and from 2020 as a dramaturg. In the latter function, she worked with directors including Daniela Löffner, Amir Reza Koohestani, Bastian Kraft, Sarah Kurze and Data Tavadze. From 2024, Sima Djabar Zadegan will be director of Berliner Theatertreffen’s International Forum along with Aljoscha Begrich.
