The 55th Jazzfest Berlin opens on 1 November with Nadin Deventer as its new artistic director. Almost all of the 35 concerts in the four festival days are already sold out. Remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the ticket office of the respective venue on the day of the event. more

DAU Freiheit — Senate justifies rejection for 2018 with time constraints

When the Berliner Festspiele took on the role of organiser of DAU Freiheit in June 2018, the search for a suitable location was paramount. Several areas in Berlin were examined beforehand until finally the decision was made to locate the project around the Kronprinzenpalais—the place where the Unification Treaty between the FRG and the GDR was signed in 1990. After discussions with residents, various institutions and local construction site operators, the area proved to be well suited as there would have been only few restrictions on traffic management. more

Contrary to public reports, the organiser of the arts project DAU Freiheit has not received an official cancellation of the project from the authorities. Instead, today at 8.30h, 30 minutes before a press conference called by the district administration and the Berlin Senate’s department for the environment, the organiser received an e-mail from the Berlin traffic guidance agency. more

The New Infinity: Invitation to the press conference

In the Autumn of 2018 Berliner Festspiele/Immersion and Planetarium Hamburg will start the programme series “The New Infinity. New art for planetariums” with artistic fulldome productions. The Berliner Festspiele will be erecting a mobile dome on Mariannenplatz to present new artworks on September 26th as part of Berlin Art Week. Until 14 October new works by David OReilly, Holly Herndon & Mathew Dryhurst and Fatima Al Qadiri & Transforma can be experienced free of charge. The presentation will conclude with concerts by William Basinski und Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand. more

Festival starts on 31 August with a piano evening Opening concert on 1 September

At the Musikfest Berlin, the Berliner Festspiele’s international orchestra festival, international guest orchestras and solists kick off the concert season by joining forces with Berlin-based orchestras to create a broad festival programme over 19 days. The central venue is the Philharmonie Berlin. First-time guests include the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Lucerne Festival Academy. more

The 55th Theatertreffen will begin on Friday, 4 May 2018 with a performance of “Faust” directed by Frank Castorf, a production of Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin (under the Artistic Direction of Frank Castorf). The nearly seven-hour-long show will be presented at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele five times, including a preview on 1 May 2018. more
