A History of German Theatre
Edited by Simon Williams and Maik Hamburger
- Bilingual: German and English
“A History of German Theatre” (Cambridge University Press) offers a first comprehensive survey in English of German theatre history from the Middle Ages to the present day. The last chapter uses the 2007 Theatertreffen as the basis for a view of the current situation. At this lauch a number of authors who have taken up controversial positions within the book will discuss tradition and breaks with tradition, where German-speaking theatre has come from and where it is going. The podium guests will be editor and dramaturg Maik Hamburger, Berlin theatre scientist Erika Fischer-Lichte, Simon Williams, professor for theatre and dance at the University of California in Santa Barbara and theatre and literature expert Marvin Carlson. The discussion will be chaired by Thomas Irmer.
