»Rock is my rock. It has been vital to me at a personal level; it has shaped me as an individual as well as an artist.«
Michael Clark
Michael Clark Company’s new production evolves from Michael Clark’s admiration for the music of rock’s holy trinity, David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, who worked in close proximity during the 1970s. This work includes several attempts to make the perfect dance to the perfect song: »Heroes«.
Hailed by the Independent on Sunday as »British dance's true iconoclast«, Michael Clark creates work that combines his classical fluency with a twisted contemporary sensibility that embraces embarrassment, doubt, and fear, as well as grace, virtue and control. He is renowned for his legendary collaborations with bands, fashion designers and visual artists including Wire, Bodymap, Leigh Bowery, Trojan and Sarah Lucas.
»Best of all, it is performed by the finest company of dancers Clark has yet possessed.«
The Guardian, Judith Mackrell, August 30, 2009
»During the pulsating climax of his new work, it really could be a night in a 1970s club with Bowie blaring through the sound system, a feeling of immortality running through your veins and a world full of possibilities. For a nostalgic moment, we can all feel young again.«
Daily Express, Allan Hunter, August 31, 2009
»So this wonderful, full-blooded work becomes a celebration of life itself, a quasi-autobiography that cleverly avoids being too obvious.«
The Daily Telegraph, Sarah Crompton, August 31, 2009
