The Brother Moves On: “Ubu Never Loved Us” on 14 July at 21:00

The Brother Moves On is a music, installation and performance art collective that embraces the multi-aesthetic, multi-disciplinary concept of a collective happening to new spaces and places. Their “Do it Yourself” consciousness has niched an aspect of the South African live music and art community by “re-challenging hip hop’s five pillars (MCing, DJaying, B-boying, Graffiti and Knowledge of Self) into a conceptechnic performance art project that incorporates historical, political and sociological perspectives”, as described by Pan African Space Station. The collective began as a self-proclaimed art movement mainly of graphic and fine artists and since began incorporating instrumentalists for the live performance environment. The name the Brother Moves On is a grammatical misconfiguration of The Brother Mouzone, a fictional character in the American Drama television series “The Wire”. In their emerging stages the movement interrogated the notion that members were each an impermanent part of the process thus the derivation of the name The Brother Moves On.

The Brother’s sound is a tradition trouncing trans-Atlantic Afro-centric futuristically ancient fusion that jack knifes between off world spectral dub-metal, hyper rhythmic rock psychedelia, indie township and astro-afro-free-jazz continues the Pan African Space Station. The band have completed three EP’s and one full length album (“A New Myth”) and are in the process of recording their second full length album entitled “Apologies to the Confused” due for release in October 2016. The collective is also engaging in their first commercial exhibition at the Goodman Gallery in September 2016 entitled “A New Mourning” which will see them being the first musical collective to be represented by the prestigious South African gallery.
