Slowness is a challenge. In the works of Liping Ting, it is ubiquitous. The Taiwan-born artist is physically present as a performer in almost all of her works. Her extremely concentrated actions touch the border to trance states and provide her installations with additional intensity and presence. Her breathing, murmuring and whispering, her sometimes penetrating voice accompany her performances. Liping Ting’s sense of body and time does not seem rooted in modernity, yet references to Artaud, Joyce, Xenakis, Cage testify to an intense artistic dialogue with the Western avant-garde.
In the framework of MaerzMusik, Liping Ting presents a new work in the daadgalerie: “Water Timing S. – Times’ Spiral” is a space, sound and light installation with video projections and performative interventions. At The Long Now, Liping Ting will also be present with a durational performance in the control room of Kraftwerk Berlin.
