Down to Earth
Signs of Affection
By Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods, with Márcio Kerber Canabarro
“How do you translate sensations and inner monologues into movement? Is it possible to depict the hesitation before speaking, the movements that are not executed, the spaces we travel through when we daydream, the memories and projections that cloud our consciousness of the present?”

In her search for new presentation contexts and territories for dance, Meg Stuart constantly redefines her artistic work. In 1994, the choreographer and dancer founded the company Damaged Goods in Brussels, with which she has worked on more than 30 productions (currently in Berlin in collaboration with HAU Hebbel am Ufer) – from solos to large-scale choreographies, site-specific works, installations and improvisation projects. As part of “Down to Earth”, Stuart will present the solo “Signs of Affection” – danced by Márcio Kerber Canabarro and with live music by Marc Lohr. “Signs of Affection” was created in 2010 within the frame of the ArtCena festival in Rio de Janeiro. In this choreographic monologue, an expressive superimposition of feelings is performed with a wide range of movements, while an explosive drum solo accompanies the performance which fades out in a series of sensorial sculptures and a resonating silence.
