Großräumige Lebensmittelproduktion in urbanen Gebieten: Solidarische Landwirtschaft, Speisegut

Christian Heymann

Christian Heymann is the founder of SpeiseGut – Community Supported Agriculture, which supplies 430 households in Berlin and Brandenburg with organic, locally-farmed foods and invites its members to lend a hand in the fields so that they can personally experience the growing cycle of their own vegetables.

Christian Heymann has been a farmer for 25 years and has worked on various organic farms throughout Germany until he founded the solidarity-based agricultural association SpeiseGut in 2013. With only little seed capital and eight buyers at the beginning, SpeiseGut has by now grown to a considerable size and supplies 430 households in Berlin and Potsdam with organically and locally grown vegetables and fruit, regionally hunted game and cold-pressed oils from its own oil mill. The members get to know “their” vegetables in the field, observe them growing and thriving, learn how much work it takes to cultivate them and experience how good they taste when they are harvested ripe and end up on the plate on the day of harvest without long transport routes and without packaging waste.
