German Jazz Award: Ulrich Gumpert

The federation of German jazz musicians UDJ is in charge of the biennially donated ‘Albert-Mangelsdorff-Award’. With financial support of the GEMA Foundation (affiliated with the German performing rights organisation) the prize honours the creative achievement of German jazz musicians.

Sadly Albert Mangelsdorff, the world famous trombone player, passed away in July this year and could not enjoy Ulrich Gumpert’s nomination for a long time.

The laureate’s numerous activities include leading his Workshop Band, playing the piano in the Zentralquartett and composing movie soundtracks to name but a few.
