Steak House

As the point of departure for his latest project, premiered in spring 2005 in Lausanne, the Swiss choreographer Gilles Jobin took a perfectly normal room, with walls and furniture, blankets and other everyday items. Six people live in this room, meet each other, share things and interact with their surroundings. The scenes unfolding on stage only appear ordinary at first glance: the inhabitants behave absurdly, but they seem to be doing so deliberately. In this room, normal codes of behaviour are suspended. Like in a comic, the plot becomes increasingly surreal, driven by a process that resembles dreaming. “This logic of absurdity is certainly the path to be followed,” says Gilles Jobin. “Then the space is deconstructed, the bodies spread through the space. What this will lead to remains to be seen.” Gilles Jobin was last in Berlin in 2002 with “Under Construction” on the invitation of Berliner Festspiele.
