In 2020, Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung awarded the Theatre-Award-Berlin to Sandra Hüller for her extraordinary services to the German-language theatre. The jury reasons: “The daily bread of the city theatre and the glamour of the film world. Extreme earnestness and bold absoluteness are just as much part of her acting as her slightly mocking, amiably reserved look at the world and the things that she is doing. In the process, her acting keeps getting simpler and the strength and mystery behind it keep growing.”
The decision regarding this award was made by a jury consisting of Shirin Sojitrawalla (theatre critic), Prof Michael Börgerding (artistic director of Theater Bremen), Dr Thomas Oberender (artistic director of Berliner Festspiele), and with Yvonne Büdenhölzer (director of the Theatertreffen) attending with an advisory vote. The Theatre-Award-Berlin is endowed with a sum of 20,000 Euro.
