Politics, art and life belong together for Judith Malina and the Living Theatre. For decades, the members of the company developed theatre pieces with interested inhabitants of conflict areas and took a radical stand for pacifism, tolerance and political awareness in the streets, on stage or in workshops. Film maker Dirk Szuszies was a member of the Living Theatre himself. Together with director Karin Kaper, he accompanied the energetic Judith Malina and her company for nearly three years, to places like the G8-summit in Genoa and to Kiam, the Israeli army’s notorious former prisoner camp in Southern Lebanon. The film also includes images and interviews from the 1960s and 1970s which demonstrate the uncompromisingly anti-commercial and activist attitude of the Living Theatre, who always strove to be in close contact with their audience.
