Lecture Performance

Scott King

Debris – fragments, unfinished elements and actions as well as abandoned ideas – according to the British artist, writer and graphic designer Scott King, these are all part of artistic practices. In this lecture performance, Scott King presents his “Debrist Manifesto”.

A male read person stands on a stage between two screens. On the screens the words “THE THOUGHT IS THE THOUGHT IS THE THOUGHT“ are repeated as a projection.

“Never finish anything. This is the first and most important rule of Debrism” is written on the first page of “The Debrist Manifesto”, the latest publication by Scott King, which explores his theory of the incomplete and fragmentary. Does the unfinished pose an insurmountable obstacle or is it a cunning solution for the realisation of ideas? In his manifesto, King articulates the rules of Debrism in a tragicomic way and offers an introduction to his working methods. Scott King’s lecture performance for “The Sun Machine Is Coming Down” is accompanied by a film produced especially for this event.
