TMT xplosif

What looks like a classic Hammond organ combo – from which you might expect to hear funk or modern groove jazz – turns out to be a musical experiment loaded with energy from the tensions between jazz, rock and techno, with the influences of drone and Pink Floyd thrown in. The three musicians who make up the trio TMT xplosif demolish genre boundaries. While the guitarist and singer Monika Roscher and Tom Jahn on Hammond organ and synthesizer regularly appear at Europe’s leading jazz festivals with their multi award-winning big bands, in this trio with drummer Tilman Herpichböhm they condense the substratum of both larger line-ups. The ensemble’s origins and basis lie in free improvisation. This is documented in audio-visual form, selected excerpts are then transcribed and reassembled, serving as collage-like building blocks for the structure of their compositions, which are then in turn released as video and sound productions. In live performances the band builds on these pieces, but repeatedly frees itself from their structures in free improvisation.
