With “Adventures of a Dentist” by Elem Klimov

Inspired by the exhibition The Cool and the Cold, where mirror reflections and parallels in the fine art of the USA and USSR play such an important part, Revolverkino at Gropius Bau adds complementarity and complexity to the big picture with three surprising pairs of films.

Adventures of a Dentist (Похождения зубного врача, Elem Klimov, USSR 1965), original Russian with subtitles, 21:30

A satirical fairy tale: the young dentist Česnokov (Andrey Vasilyevich Myagkov) has the gift of pulling teeth painlessly. His colleagues fear for their livelihoods and conspire to bring him down. Where would we all be, after all, if expertise were to be ruined by random talent? The censors did not find the film at all funny and banned it.
