They stand half in shadow leaning against the wall, or on the table in spotlight; they face away from or sit right in the middle of the audience. Five performers’ bodies in light and shade are used to keep redefining the theatre space. Randomly arranged musings on art and theatre, on love and growing old, youthful memories and apparently intimate confessions are stretched like a fabric across this framework in the form of a continuum of monologues. Stories with which everyone can identify are told. But who is talking? After a series of solo performances, “Talk to me” is choreographer Mart Kangro’s first group piece together with Finnish and Estonian artists from the areas of dance, theatre and music. In it, he focuses on the relationship between performer and audience and asks: How authentic are the confessions made on stage? How permeable is the boundary between personal and artistic existence? “Talk to me” poses these questions about our expectations or theatrical reality – and leaves them open-ended.
