Reflections

Starting from a note on Georges Bataille, Abdelwahab Meddeb broaches the issue of Islam as a political formation in his lecture. He illuminates the relationship between the homogenous principle of democracy and the heterogeneous meaning of a ‘Führerprinzip’.

Abdelwahab Meddeb was born in Tunis in 1946. The writer, who has become one of the most sought-after experts on intercultural exchange ever since his book, “The Malady of Islam” (2002) was published, composes novels, poems, and is well regarded as an expert on Islamic Mysticism.
