Humaydan’s first novel, “Ba' mithl bait mithl Bairut”, describes the horrors of the civil war and Lebanon’s modern society as told from the perspective of four women. Fierce, yet not heroic, they suffer danger and bereavement, without accepting either of these. With a characteristic smooth and poetic style, Humaydan finds her own voice among the contemporary literature of her country.

Following the release of her first novel, Iman Humaydan, born in Ain Enoub in 1956, quickly established her own voice within Lebanese literature. As is already the case with her second novel “Wild Mulberries” (2004), her first novel will be available in German translation soon.
