Topol’s first two novels describe the post-Wall years as a babylonian mess. In “Night work” he devotes himself to the Czech post-war history and portrays the events of August 1968 as a period between realism and phantasmagoria. In addition, he reads from his new novel, which will be published in Germany in early 2007.
Jáchym Topol, born in Prague in 1962, was a lyricist for a rock band, a warehouseman, a fireman, and was active in dissident activities during the 80’s. He became known internationally in 1994 with the novel “The Sister”.
