Where do I come from? What will become of me? Nono must let himself be taken on an adventurous journey, at first unwillingly, to find the right answers. Each experience is swiftly followed by the next. Who is the man that Nono gets to know on the train? David Grossman (Israel) takes his young readers with his novel “The ZigZag Kid” into a realm between reality and magic and tells of a teenager on the search for his family secret.
7th/8th grade

David Grossman was born in 1954 in Jerusalem. Coming of age and the war and violence which mark everyday life in Israel are the central themes of his works. His craft, to touchingly portray the fate of individuals and to fuse different planes of reality, is often apparent in Grossman’s novels, in which the boundaries between literature for young people and adults are blurred. He is numbered amongst the most important Israeli authors of his generation and is a tireless advocate for an Israeli-Palestinian agreement.
