In politically restictive systems the internet is often the only available medium for journalists to carry out their work. Censors continue to find ways to shut down sites but at the same time no means has been found to contol the vital web-log scene who practise their basic right of free speech. The ciculation of this information through private distributors has become one of the most important instances of basic democracy. What roll does this medium play in democratic and restricted societies?
