Opening Concert

Past Dates

Bruckner’s symphonies, and the music of the French tradition, have long been among the trademarks of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Also sharing this double-focus, Mariss Jansons, since 2004 chief director of the Concertgebouw, opens the musikfest berlin 08. The Hymn is one of the early works, with which Messiaen attracted the attention of the French musical community. Bruckner’s third bears a Janus character: and with it the series of great symphonies commences. It only took its final form, however, after he had composed another five. Poulenc’s organ concert sounds in the programme like an homage to these two composers, both excellent organists.
