Tempelhof II

Past Dates

A great work, a cosmic play of sounds in majestic colour, like the natural columns of the Bryce Canyon, shimmering ethereally, like the air around the monumental natural wonders of North America; polyphonic like the bird song that can be heard there. 20 years ago the Berliner Festwochen opened their Messiaen-programme with this work performed by the Ensemble intercontemporain under Kent Nagano. This world-class formation in which everyone can be a soloist has been resident in the »Cité de la Musique«, Paris since1995. For 2 years it has been led by the young Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki sovereign both in the classical repertoire and in new music.
