Nicolas Stemann

Nicolas Stemann was born in Hamburg in 1968. He studied directing at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna and at the College of Theatre, Music Theatre and Film in Hamburg. He describes himself as a director and musician. He has worked regularly at Thalia Theater Hamburg, Deutsches Theater Berlin and the Vienna Burgtheater, where he directed the world premieres of Elfriede Jelinek’s plays “Das Werk” and “Babel” among others. His world premiere of Jelinek’s “Die Kontrakte des Kaufmanns. Eine Wirtschaftskomödie” at the Thalia Theater was invited not only to the Theatertreffen, but also to the Mülheimer Theatertage and the Vienna Festwochen. His production “Faust I & II” was awarded the 3sat-Prize at the 2012 Theatertreffen and invited to the Festival d’Avignon in 2013.
