After several previous professorships, Prof Dr Dr h.c. Oliver Grau was appointed first Chair Professor for Image Science in the German speaking countries at the Danube University in Krems, Austria, in 2005. He has given more than 300 lectures worldwide; his numerous publications have been translated into 14 languages so far. With more than 1000 citations since 2000, his book “Virtual Art. From Illusion to Immersion” (MIT Press, 2003) is the internationally most frequently quoted art history monograph (H-Index). He is the founding director of the international conference series MediaArtHistory, which has been taking place since 2005. Funded by DFG, ARC and FWF, he established the internationally most extensive Archive of Digital Art , at the same time the first collective Web 2.0 archive of digital liberal arts. In 2014, he received an honorary doctor’s title for his service to science, in 2015, he was elected to join Academia Europaea.
