Director Claudia Bauer was born in Landshut in 1966. She studied Acting and Directing at Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ernst Busch” in Berlin and has held several guest professorships at the academy’s drama department. She was head of Theaterhaus Jena from 1999 to 2004 and Director-in-Residence, together with Enrico Lübbe, at Neues Theater Halle from 2005 to 2007. She has staged productions at Staatstheater Stuttgart, den Münchner Kammerspielen, der Volksbühne Berlin, am Deutschen Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Leipzig, Schauspielhaus Graz, Theater Magdeburg, Theater und Orchester Heidelberg and Staatstheater Schwerin. She created the German premiere of Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s “Welt am Draht” at Schauspiel Dortmund and, together with Rainald Grebe, René Marik, Tilla Kratochwil and productions including “Tarzan” at Puppentheater Halle. Since 2015/16, she has been Director-in-Residence at Schauspiel Leipzig. At the theatre’s Diskothek-venue, she premiered Wolfram Höll’s “Und dann” (invited to Mülheimer Theatertage – Stücke 2014, to Autorentheatertage at Deutsches Theater Berlin and to Heidelberger Stückemarkt) and Bernhard Studlar’s “Die Ermüdeten”. Her production of “89/90” by Peter Richter at Schauspiel Leipzig was invited to the 2017 Berlin Theatertreffen. The next invitation to the Theatertreffen followed in 2019 – with “Tartuffe oder das Schwein der Weisen” at Theater Basel – and her 2020 invitation with “Süßer Vogel Jugend (Sweet Bird of Youth)” is her third.
