!Mediengruppe Bitnik (read – the not mediengruppe bitnik) live and work in Berlin and Zurich. They are contemporary artists who work on and with the Internet. Their practice expands from the digital to affect physical spaces, often intentionally employing loss of control to challenge established structures and mechanisms. The works of !Mediengruppe Bitnik formulate fundamental questions concerning contemporary issues. !Mediengruppe Bitnik are the artists Carmen Weisskopf and Domagoj Smoljo. Their accomplices are the London filmmaker and researcher Adnan Hadzi and the reporter Daniel Ryser. Their works have been shown internationally in exhibitions at Fondazione Prada, Milan; Shanghai Minsheng 21st Century Museum; Get It Louder Biennial, Beijing; Ural Industrial Biennial of Contemporary Art, Yekaterinburg; The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, Moscow; City Art Gallery, Ljubljana; Centre Culturel Suisse Paris; Kunsthaus Zürich; NiMk – Netherlands Media Art Institute, Amsterdam; FACT Liverpool; Nam June Paik Art Center, Yongin; Kunstverein Hannover; HKW Berlin; Eigen + Art Lab, Berlin; Annka Kultys Gallery, London; Cabaret Voltaire, Zurich; Onassis Cultural Centre Athens; Museum Folkwang, Essen; La Gaîté Lyrique, Paris; National Center of the Arts Mexico City; Gallery EDEN 343, São Paulo; the International Roaming Biennial of Tehran. Among the awards they received are the Swiss Art Award, Prize of Geneva Art Society, Migros New Media Jubilee Award, Golden Cube Dokfest Kassel.
