Dam Van Huynh
UK based dancer/choreographer Dam Van Huynh originates from Southern Vietnam. As a child refugee, he and his family fled Vietnam after the war settling in the USA. A graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music and Dance, Dam has worked with various companies and choreographers including Merce Cunningham, The Nevada Ballet, Portugal’s CeDeCe, Richard Alston, Phoenix Dance Theatre. In 2008 he formed his own company - Van Huynh Company and is director of Centre 151 (London), where his company is based. Dam was appointed Artist-in-Residence of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2010/12) and he is associate Director of Dance Bridges Festival (Kolkata, India). As an award-winning choreographer, his works are performed internationally and include commissions from National Dance Company of Mexico, Unlock Dancing Plaza (Hong Kong), British Museum, Fóramen M. Ballet (Mexico). His latest creations include Đẹp, Gesundheit! and Groovething. Dam has collaborated with a wide range of artists and composers including Elaine Mitchener, David Toop, Rie Nakajima, Tansy Davies, Dai Fuijkura. “Of Leonardo da Vinci” marks his directorial debut in an opera.
