Thomas Demand

Thomas Demand studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and at Goldsmiths College in London and is known for his large-format photographs, which explore the gaps between reality and its forms of representation. By creating three-dimensional, mostly life-size models of spaces, made of paper and cardboard, whose themes often refer to found footage from the mass media, and by photographing the crafted scenes, he creates his own unique artefacts that play with the viewer's notions of fiction and reality. In addition to participating in numerous international group exhibitions, his work has been presented in a series of solo exhibitions since the mid-1990s, most recently at the Fondazione Prada in Venice in an exhibition project realised together with Alexander Kluge and Anna Viebrock.

As of February 2019.
