Prof. Dr. Jörg Roesler, born 1940, studied economics and history at Humboldt University (HU) Berlin from 1959 to 1964. Afterwards, he taught economic history at the HU and did his doctorate. From 1975 to 1991, he was head of the department “Socialist Countries” at the Institute for Economic History at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. In 1982, he obtained professorship. From 1991 to 1995, he worked as a research assistant on the industrial history of the GDR at the Centre for Contemporary History Research in Potsdam. Between 1992 and 1995, he was a guest lecturer at McGill University Montreal, the University of Toronto, Canada and Portland State University, USA, where he held lectures on German and Eastern European economic history since 1945. Since his retirement, he has continued to be scientifically active.
