Michael Akinlaton has worked in various, often uncertain, jobs in Germany, England and Ireland and has been involved in social and church volunteer work. In 2012, he began to work as an order picker for Deutsche Post AG. In 2015, he transferred to the company’s subsidiary DHL Delivery GmbH in Kassel for operational reasons, where he founded a works council. In his position as Chairman of the works council of DHL Delivery in Kassel, he campaigned for equitable working conditions as well as co-determination on issues of duty rosters and overtime, and implemented an agreement on working hours between the company and the works council. In 2018, he was voted Deputy Chairman of the Board of the District Department II of the union ver.di Northern Hessia, and in the autumn of the same year, he was nominated for the Works Council Award. Due to the transfer of employees of DHL Delivery’s regional companies into Deutsche Post AGs in-house tariff agreements, he has been working as a carrier for Deutsche Post again since 8 July 2019. In addition to this work, he is an expert consultant for the works council of the Deutsche Post branch Kassel.
