Theatre maker, educator – Amsterdam, Netherlands
Participant International Forum 2020
Rodrigo Batista is a Brazilian theatre maker and educator, based in Amsterdam. He graduated from DAS Theatre – Academy of Theatre and Dance (Master’s programme) at the Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2019 and also from the Universidade de São Paulo with a Master’s degree (2015) and a Bachelor’s degree (2009) in Theatre Directing. He is the co-founder of the São Paulo-based group [pH2]: estado de teatro and worked as a teacher in several cultural programmes on the outskirts of São Paulo. With his body as a locus, Rodrigo Batista expands explicitness into an aesthetic, aiming to attack the contemporary neoliberal impunity. Investigating straightforward language, propaganda as denunciation, gore/pornographic/necro visuality and decolonisation as a territorial battle, all within a body research made from impulses of iconoclasm, indigestion, mutilation, blood and sex. Rodrigo Batista presented works in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
