Alicja Kwade lives and works in Berlin. Her work investigates and questions the structures of our reality and society and reflects on our perceptual habits in our everyday life. Her diverse practice is based around concepts of space, time, science and philosophy and takes shape in sculptural objects, public installations, video and even photography.
In 2019, Kwade has been selected for the Roof Garden Commission of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. She participated in the 57th Biennale di Venezia “Viva Arte Viva” curated by Christine Macel (2017), the Setouchi Triennale (2019) and the 3rd ARoS Triennial “The Garden – End of Times; Beginning of Times, #3 The Future” in Aarhus. Recent exhibitions include solo shows at MIT List Visual Arts Centre, Boston (2019), Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Helsinki (2018), Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2018), Haus Konstruktiv, Zürich (2018), YUZ Museum, Shanghai (2018), Whitechapel Gallery, London (2016-2017), Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt (2015), Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin (2008). In 2015-2016, Public Art Fund commissioned “Against the Run”, an installation in New York’s Central Park.
Her works have been included in group exhibitions in Sengokuhara, Japan (“Syncopation: Contemporary Encoun¬ters with the Modern Masters”, Pola Museum of Art, 2019), Beijing (“Deutschland 8 - German Art in Beijing”, 2017), at MONA in Tasmania (2019), Hayward Gallery (2018), Louisiana Museum (2018), The Bass, Miami Beach (2014), Kunsthalle Wien (2014), Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (2013), Galerie des Galeries Lafayette, Paris (2012) and at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2011). Her works belong to several interna¬tional private and public collections.
