Sandeep Bhagwati is a composer, artist, curator and author. Born in Mumbai as the son of a German mother and an Indian father, he grew up in Germany from the age of 5. He studied at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München and the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique (IRCAM) at the Centre George Pompidou in Paris. He composes contemporary music and develops trans-traditional musical working methods, explores new forms of performance using electronic media and is active in the field of multimedia performance and installations. He publishes texts on the current situation of the arts and also writes for radio. Theoretical and artistic analysis of Asian music cultures is a key aspect of his work. He was previously Professor of Composition at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe and has held the Canada Research Chair in Inter-X Art Practice and Theory within the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University, Montréal, Québec, Canada since 2006.
