Deborah Birch
Deborah Birch is an Australian performer, poet, theorist and PhD candidate at the Sorbonne Paris IV. Her thesis treats three figures – the witch, the alchemist, and the cyborg – as motifs for exploring new materialisms that complicate dominant ontologies. Her practice employs critical, queer, and feminist theory, speculative fiction and poetic techniques to build bridges between science, ritual, and storytelling, focusing on how we cross over scales and planes of experience, from the interior of the body to nourishment to our bonds with (non-)human others. Her works, projects, and collaborations have been shown in institutions including ICA, Kanal – Centre Pompidou, and Kunsthal Ghent.
