Lucien Strauch joins Theatertreffen as a dramaturg in 2022. He was born in Frankfurt/Main in 1991 and studied German literature and philosophy at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. While still at university, he worked as an assistant at theatres including Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspiel Frankfurt, Kampnagel Hamburg and the Vienna Burgtheater. In 2015/16, he acted in René Pollesch’s production “Service / No Service” at Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz and performed in readings of texts by authors Svenja Viola Bungarten, Malte Abraham and Leon Ospald in Hildesheim and Berlin. Lucien Strauch has been working as a freelance dramaturg since 2017. He has a continual working relationship with director David Marton at institutions like Opéra National de Lyon, Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne, Wiener Festwochen and Vlaamse Opera Antwerp/Ghent. Their production “Narziss and Echo” premiered at the 2019 Wiener Festwochen and went on to tour France, Germany and Switzerland. “Dido and Aeneas, Remembered” was voted “Stream of the Year” by the magazine Opernwelt in 2021. In the same year, Lucien Strauch was granted a dg:starter-scholarship by Dramaturgische Geselllschaft. His most recent articles were published by the Theater der Zeit publishers and in the magazine “Das Wetter”. In the autumn of 2022, he will be working on a production of “Pique Dame” (director: David Marton; musical director: Nathalie Stutzmann) at the Brussels opera La Monnaie / De Munt as a dramaturg.
