Composer Mark Andre was born in Paris in 1964 to Franco-German parents, and now lives in Germany. In his creative work, which is dominated by orchestral and chamber music works and influenced by Helmut Lachenmann, constructiveness is connected to expressive energy. Andre often designs noisy, mainly dark soundscapes in which he creates minute modifications in sound elements. Arrangements established at the beginning are dissolved during the course of a work. The composer likes to use the term “threshold” in connection with such processes of change, referring to the metaphysical and religious themes in his work. In composing, Andre makes intensive use of the possibilities offered by modern electroacoustics, especially live electronics and digital sound analysis.
