Annie Gosfield

Annie Gosfield (born in 1960) comes from Philadelphia. She studied piano and composition in Los Angeles, but at the same time felt drawn toward alternative rock music, playing in various bands as a keyboarder. Annie Gosfield has lived in New York since 1992. She performs notated and improvised instrumental and electronic music with her own group, and writes works for other interpreters. Her compositions are often inspired by non-musical sounds – everyday sounds, machine noises or defective pianos that she incorporates into her pieces and whose undiscovered beauty she emphasizes. In 2012, Annie Gosfield is a fellow at the American Academy in Berlin.
