Following studies at one of Tokyo’s art schools, Junko Wada first worked with large-formatted oil paintings, while simultaneously focusing on her body’s movements. She began to paint pictures using her body in a space instead of on a canvas. This resulted in a collaboration with sound artists, in particular Akio Suzuki, Rolf Julius and Hans Peter Kuhn, and the development of her own form of movement performance. She rediscovered painting a number of years ago and now works with both media. Junko Wada lives and works in Berlin and Amino (Kyoto).
