Maryanne Amacher

Following studies with Karlheinz Stockhausen among others, American sound artist and composer Maryanne Amacher (1938–2009) came into close contact with John Cage in the 1970s, collaborating on Lecture on the Weather and Close Up / Empty Words. Maryanne Amacher provided an important impetus to sound art, primarily addressing the connection between sound and space. She used advanced telecommunications technologies in multiple projects in order to realise acoustic interactions between far-flung places.
