Frances-Marie Uitti
Cellist Frances-Marie Uitti (born in 1948 in Chicago) is one of the most distinguished interpreters of contemporary music. Following classical training, she was in close contact with Giacinto Scelsi from the late 1970s onwards, and also worked with John Cage. By inventing a technique using two bows simultaneously Frances-Marie Uitti opened her instrument to completely new sounds, inspiring composers such as György Kurtág, Luigi Nono and Jonathan Harvey.
