Joey Baron

American musician Joey Baron was born in 1955 in Richmond, Virginia. He plays percussion and as a composer is a representative of avant-garde jazz. In his career, he has played with such artists as Marianne Faithfull, Bill Frisell, Stan Getz and John Zorn. In addition, he has played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Tony Bennett, Carmen McRae, Art Pepper, Laurie Anderson and Al Jarreau. He has also performed with formations such as the Down Home Group (with Arthur Blythe, Ron Carter and Bill Frisell), Barndown and Killer Joey. Joey Baron’s solo projects bear influences of the tonal free harmolodics of an Ornette Coleman, which he combines with elements of Afroamerican music, hiphop and free jazz.
