Isabel Mundry studied composition with Frank Michael Beyer and Gösta Neuwirth in Berlin, as well as Hans Zender in Frankfurt am Main. Following multiple residencies at IRCAM in Paris and also in Vienna, she taught composition and music theory in Frankfurt am Main. In 2004 she was appointed professor of composition in Zurich. Her music theatre work “Ein Atemzug – die Odyssee”, which premiered at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in 2005, received the Critics’ Prize – one of many distinctions during her career. In many of her works, Isabel Mundry reflects innovatively on time and space. New musical territory is explored, while at the same time elements of musical history are incorporated. Isabel Mundry’s music often embodies a charming formal openness while questioning old listening habits.
